Today’s 333 Devotional: “When Light is Darkness”
The Greeks didn’t believe that sight came from allowing light to come in; rather it was by allowing the body’s own light to go out. The eye therefore isn’t what sees; rather it’s the conduit or source of light that makes sight possible.
This brings some insight to what Jesus was saying in Luke’s gospel.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.” (Luke 11:34-36)
It isn’t what goes in through the eye that determines sight; rather it’s what shines forth from inside. What this is saying is that we see the world around us based upon our particular beliefs.
Are we seeing it through the eyes of God, that is a godly worldview, or through other sets of values or religions?
Many people say they have the truth, but in reality they have believed a lie, and thus their light is in reality darkness, and in it’s actually the deepest form of darkness.
I remember how the Beatles traveled to India to spend time with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It was their desire to become enlightened, but in reality they went further into darkness and brought this darkness to the world, and people believed in the darkness.
We don’t need to believe in the wisdom of others, or in the wisdom of religions, because there is a greater than Solomon, who is the wisest human being to have ever lived. Who is the greater? Jesus! (Luke 11:31-32)
When Jesus occupies the temple inside our hearts, then the light of God will shine forth and dispel the darkness.
