Today’s 333 Devotional: “God’s Great Grace Extended”
God’s great power and grace are extended towards us when we become the church He intended for us to be.
It says when the church was unified and sharing with those who lacked, when the church continued steadfastly in the word and fellowship in and through the power of the Holy Spirit, it was then that the power of God was then extended to them in the proclamation of the gospel, and God’s great grace fell (Acts 2:40-47; 4:31-33).
It was because they were the church God intended that His great power and grace were theirs, and they were able to live a radical life of faith.
Some people describe such a church as admirable but impractical. But for the first church it was a way of life, a life of faith and service.
So why can’t we live such a life? I think it’s because we’ve allowed the cares of this world to have too big of a hold. The church has become like the seed that grew up amongst the thorns who’s ending is tragic.
“Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.” (Matthew 13:22)
If we want to be the church God intended, we have to get back to living this life by radical faith in and through the power of the Holy Spirit. We need to be the church that God intended, and not what the world dictates the church to be.
Peter and John said to those who tried, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19-20)
God will extend His great power and grace when we start living life in accordance with His word and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
