Today’s 333 Devotional: “Growing Into Your Inheritance”
Far too many Christians are a mile wide, but only an inch deep. They stay on the edges of maturity, never fully entering the fullness of God’s inheritance. They started out well, but soon find themselves in a state of spiritual stagnation.
While childhood is adorable, being a perpetual child is not. Far too often we look at Jesus statement to be like a child (Matthew 18:4) as literal when it comes to our Christian life.
While our faith is to be childlike, our Christian walk should not be.
The Apostle Paul said, “Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” (Ephesians 4:13-14)
Paul is saying we need to grow up, and one of the reasons is so we can receive all of what God has for us.
In the court of law when a child hasn’t reached the age of maturity, an executor is placed over the inheritance until the child grows up and is mature enough to handle his or her responsibly. The reason is because they may squander their inheritance or be deceived and easily turn it over to unscrupulous individuals.
As believers we also have an inheritance, not only the inheritance of heaven when this life is over, but also an inheritance that is waiting right now. The Lord is actually looking intently at this very thing, and as we begin to grow in our faith, the Lord will release more of His inheritance to us.
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
