Thought for Today: “The Choice Is Ours”
When Jesus approached the pool of Bethesda, he saw a man who had an infirmity for 38 years. Look at what it says about asks this man.
“When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’” (John 5:6)
What are you kidding! One would think that this is a no brainer. Of course he wanted to be healed, that’s why for years he laid by the pool of Bethesda hoping to be the first in to take advantage of its healing waters.
So why ask the question? Jesus already knew the answer. So, it may very well have been to help the man speak into his situation faith for a cure. He had to recognize that on his own he could never accomplish what only God can do.
We have the choice to remain as we are, or to believe that Jesus wants to make us new in Him. But to do so we have to speak into our situation faith in Jesus that He is the only one to meet our need. We have to recognize that the power doesn’t reside within us, but only in Jesus.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
