Today’s 333 Devotional: My God’s Bigger
The art of comparing is used quite extensively in our Western culture especially when it comes to sales and politics.
In the 1950’s it was used by Ken-L Ration dog food in a very successful ad campaign that pitted one little boys dog against a friends. He sang that His dogs faster, bigger, and better because He gets Ken-L Ration.
In politics it all about comparison as one party pits its policies and candidates against the other party.
And while we’re told we err when we compare (2 Corinthians 10:12), God allowed it when it involved Himself as compared to the gods of the other nations. In another song sung by Moses we see this in a most unusual way.
“How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up? For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede.” (Deuteronomy 32:30-31)
Even though the other nation would end up winning, it was because the Lord allowed it in order to discipline His people, and even Israel’s enemies conceded this fact.
Their rock is nothing like our Rock. Our God is bigger than the god of this world. In fact, our God is bigger than anything this world may throw at us. Our God is bigger than whatever problem or difficulty we may face.
The Apostle John wanted to make this clear, even making the comparison between the god of this world and Himself by calling us little children, and that we overcome because our God is bigger.
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
So when the storms of life hit, let’s build our lives upon the Rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ, because when we do our lives will hold firm (Matthew 7:24-25).
Our God is bigger.
