Today’s 333 Devotional: “A Refuge in the Storm”
The world is filled with troubles. Gee, there’s something nobody ever thought about before (tongue in cheek).
Jesus not only makes this clear, but He also said that with the troubles we could be at peace because He overcame the world.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
But while troubles are a foregone conclusion, we miss this aspect of peace because we don’t see God as our refuge.
In several of his Psalms King David makes this clear.
“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You” (Psalms 9:9-10).
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling” (Psalm 46:1-3).
No matter what we are going through, God’s promise is that when we trust in Him that He will be a refuge, that place of safety. Now this doesn’t mean that we will never experience storms, but rather that He will protect and see us through them.
Even though we may not see Him, God is always there. He is faithful and true, and His promise is that He will never leave us nor forsake us, but that He will be that place of refuge and safety when the storms of life hit.
So when troubles come, let’s crawl up on our heavenly Father’s lap and allow His loving arms to wrap around us, because it is only in the arms of God that we will find His comfort, His love, and His protection.
