The Hiding Place

Today’s 333 Devotional: “The Hiding Place”

It’s all about whether we’re hiding from or hiding in God.

When humanity fell in the Garden of Eden, the human race has been trying to hide itself from the Lord ever since. After falling for Satan’s temptation, Adam and Eve knew of their plight before a holy and righteous God and tried to hide their sin and themselves from Him.

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8)

Thus began a lesson humanity has yet to learn, and that is, you can’t run and hide from God. God knows exactly where we are and what we’ve been up to.

King David knew of this reality for his life.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” (Psalm 139:7-8)

So instead of running and hiding from God, how about coming and confessing our sins to God and hide ourselves in Him?

Again let’s go to King David for instruction.

“I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin … You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:5, 7)

No matter what may come at us, whether it’s temptations, discouragements, disappointments, failures, hostilities, or even sickness, we need to learn to trust in the Lord and make David’s prayer our own.

“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by.” (Psalm 57:1)
