Thought for Today: Don’t Be Unequally Yoked
We need to be careful thinking that we’ve got this “Christian” thing down, thinking that since we’ve been saved we’re safe. Sometimes we’re our own worse enemies.
God commanded the children of Israel not to intermarry those outside the faith because they will turn a believer’s heart to follow after their gods (Deuteronomy 7:3-4). But Solomon didn’t follow God’s command even though God twice appeared to Him commanding him not to go after these other gods (1 Kings 11:10).
Instead it says he “clung to these (wives) in love,” and when he was old these wives turned his heart after other gods (1 Kings 11:2-4).
The Bible says not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and that bad company corrupts good morals (2 Corinthians 6:14-17; 1 Corinthians 15:33).
Solomon’s life was full of promise but it ended in failure because he allowed his sensual and fleshly nature to pull him down and turn him away from his loyalty to God.
