Prayer That Changes Everything

Today’s Devotional: Prayer That Changes Everything

While prayer may change the circumstances that surround us, and the problems that assail us, what prayer is meant to change is us.

When we pray, God intervenes and changes things. But God usually doesn’t do it in accordance to how we pray or what we pray for. We either pray for God to change others, or to change the circumstances or situations we find ourselves in. And while God may do it this way, more often than not the changes God wants to make are in us.

Generally, God wants to change our attitude towards others, because when these changes occur within us it frees us to cooperate with Him in the changes needing to be made in others, and in our situation.

To bring this about, this there’s a prayer I learned, and encourage others to pray. It was a prayer I learned from Evelyn Christian’s Book, “Lord, Change Me.” The prayer comes from the book’s title, or “Lord change me.”

This is the most transformative prayer we could ever pray. Because when God begins to change us, it changes our attitudes, and we begin to change how we view others and our situations.

This then changes everything else.

The truth, while hard to swallow, is that more often than not we’re the culprits in the problems we face. And even if we’re not, there’s an old truism that says, “It takes two to tango.”

But when we begin to change through this prayer’s transformative power, we’re going to find those we’re having problems with begin to change, along with whatever situation assails us.

If we want our prayers to be effective then we need to cooperate with God, and the change God wants to make is a change that happens within us where God changes us more and more into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.

So instead of asking God to change others or the situation, instead let’s pray, “Lord Change Me.”
