Thought For Today: Peace and Prosperity for God’s House
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.’” (Psalm 122:6-7)
The Psalmist is asking for God’s people to pray for the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem, and therefore God’s holy temple.
While our prayers should always be for the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem, they should also be for the church, or God’s house today, which unfortunately has become more of a hotbed of controversy, division, and discord that a place of peace, that is, a place where the quite assurance of God’s presence if found within.
And the prosperity has nothing to do with financial gain, but rather kingdom gains. Instead of the church retreating in the face of evil, it should be advancing God’s kingdom, bringing light to the world’s ever increasing darkness.
Jesus said, “On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)
Therefore, let’s pray for both the peace and prosperity of Jerusalem and the church.
