Open Our Eyes

If we could only see what God is doing it would make a difference in how we view life, not to mention see how big God is and how little our problems actually are?

Elisha’s ability to see what God was doing landed him smack dab in the sights of Israel’s enemy, the Arameans. They surrounded the small city of Dothan to wipe out the city and capture Elisha.

When Elisha’s servant saw the massive army he panicked, and I bet he wasn’t the only one. But Elijah said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16)

Elisha then prayed for his servant asking God to open his eyes so that he could see the spiritual reality to the physical problem. And it says that the Lord opened the eyes of this young man and he saw the mountains full of horses and chariots of fire, and they were surrounding the enemy, or shall I say the physical problems he was now facing.

Elijah prayed for the eyes of this young man’s faith to be open.

With all the problems we face in life, we need to pray, “Lord, open the eyes of my heart that I may see what you are doing, because to me it seems hopeless.”

Far too often we see only our problems and not what the Lord desires to do in our lives, not only through our problems, but the healing He has ordained because of the problem.

We need the eyes of our faith to be opened, because faith is “the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.” (Hebrews 11:1)

The question becomes, “What does God use to open our eyes?”

Generally speaking He does so through His Word, the Bible. The Psalmist prayed, “Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
