Created to Fly
“Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. The Lord alone led him.” (Deuteronomy 32:11-12a)
God created us to fly, to mount upon wings of eagles. The problem is that we’re way too comfortable, and so God has to stir up the nest.
When an eagle builds it’s nest it fills it with sticks and sometimes rocks, but lines it with feathers and fur. When it’s time for the young eaglets to fly, the mother removes these comfortable liners to force the eaglets out of the nest.
God likewise gets us out of our comfort zones to be what He created us to be. This was the testimony of the first church. They were growing and things couldn’t be better, but they weren’t taking the good news out to the nations.
They were comfortable. So God brought persecution to the church and within one generation the gospel message spread throughout the world.
God never meant for us to only sit in the pews, rather He wants us to go out and share the good news. It’s called the Great Commission.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always.” (Matthew 28:19-20a)
When the eaglets are ready to fly the mother hovers over the nest showing them how to spread their wings and that flight is possible. She then lifts them from the nest to great heights and drops them. Before they reach the bottom, however, mom swoops down and bears them up upon her wings and does it again until they start flying.
To teach us to fly, God allows us to fall and fail. But He’s there to catch us and undergird us until we reach our potential.
