On You Mark, Get Set, Go
It all starts with Jesus.
The writer of Hebrews says we need to keep our focus on Jesus, because not only does our faith start with Him, but also it is perfected and completed in Him (Hebrews 12:2a).
But it’s not only our faith; it’s everything, because He created it all.
In John’s gospel it says that Jesus, the Word of God, is God, and that “all things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John 1:3)
This is especially true when it comes to church and our ministries. It’s Jesus that starts them, and it’s Jesus that makes them go.
Peter declared that He, Jesus, was none other than the Christ, the Son of the living God, and it was upon this declaration that Jesus said, “On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18b)
We are also told in Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”
If Jesus isn’t behind what we are doing, and if He isn’t the one who builds, authors, and starts the church and our ministries, then whatever it is that we are doing for God is for naught, and in the end will not stand.
Jesus said that whoever builds upon Him, that is, upon obedience to what He says, they are wise because they are building upon a rock solid foundation that will stand the trials and tribulations of this world. But Jesus also said that whoever doesn’t obey his word, whatever they build will come tumbling down, because they built upon a foundation of sand, that is, they built on something other than Jesus (Matthew 7:24-27).
And so, before anything is started, we need to make sure that Jesus is the one who is authoring or starting it. And when this is the case, He will perfect and complete what He has started.
