Obedience Brings Wisdom
The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
But it’s our obedience to His word that reveals this wisdom to the world.
“Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments … Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes.” (Deuteronomy 4:5-6a)
Moses is urging Israel to obey God’s word, and when they do they’ll find and experience God’s wisdom and understanding for their lives, and then their witness will be effective to the people living in this world.
If we honestly look at it, there isn’t one thing we will ever run into or face that God’s wisdom isn’t available to help us through.
This wisdom is available through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit within each believer.
Jesus said, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth … He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:13a, 16:26b)
The Holy Spirit has also directed the writing of God’s word through God’s people.
“For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21)
It’s through obedience to God’s word, which was directed by the Holy Spirit, that we’ll be blessed with the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God.
This is why the Apostle James said, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves … if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” (James 1:22, 25)
It is obedience to God’s word that then brings wisdom.
