Pigs Got Better Sense
Some people really don’t think pigs are smart, and that’s because they roll around in mud and eat rotten leftovers. But they’re smarter than what many think. Some place their intelligence on par with dogs.
But in our story pigs are a whole lot smarter than humans.
As Jesus was casting out the legion of demons from the demon-possessed man of Gadarene, the demons pleaded with Jesus not to send them to the abyss, or demon jail, but rather into a herd of pigs.
“So all the demons begged Him, saying, ‘Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.’ And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.” (Mark 5:12-13)
Here we have unclean spirits entering into unclean animals.
But these pigs seemed to have more sense than us humans. And although their solution was wrong, committing suicide is unacceptable; they knew that demon possession was just as unacceptable.
Sometimes we just continue through this life content with living in this world and allowing the world to live within us, which is an extremely slippery slope. Soon we find ourselves on a downward spiral into insanity, or a state of sin so bad that the sin controls us rather than the Lord.
To counter this we need to ask God to increase our discernment, and not allow the world and Satan to get a foothold in our lives. And when we see that Satan has that foothold, then we need to know that this is unacceptable and seek deliverance, doing what is required in God’s word, and that is confession of sin and repentance.
We also need to get into God’s word and let God’s word get into us. We need to be doers of the word and not hearers only.
Let’s start being smarter than pigs.
