God Is Drawing
Don’t be discouraged when your family and friends don’t seem to get it. God is drawing.
“When Felix came … he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, ‘Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.’” (Acts 24:24-25)
It says that Felix had a more accurate knowledge about the church (Acts 24:22), but he still continued to call Paul into his presence even to the point of becoming frightened by what he was hearing (conviction of sin). Felix’s reason was to see if Paul would pay for his release (Acts 24:26).
This went on for two years, and while we don’t know what happened to Felix, this does give us some indication of what our friends and family are going through.
Although they may think or say it’s for another reason, the truth is that God is drawing them. But notice Paul didn’t give Felix what he wanted, rather Paul gave Felix what he needed, God’s word.
We must be careful not to try to please, but rather we need to give the truth of God’s word. We don’t need to worry about whether we offend with God’s word, because the Holy Spirit is doing His work.
God is drawing.
But at the same time, we don’t need to be confrontational or condemning, instead we need to give God’s truth and show God’s grace and mercy. Yes, they will become frightened due to their state before God, that is, through the conviction of sin.
We need to be patient and loving during this transitional time. We also must realize that not everyone will believe and come to faith of Jesus Christ. So, we can’t become discouraged, but continue to pray, witness, and live our lives for Christ so as to cause a spiritual hunger and a seeking by all we interact with.
