Thought For Today: The Blessings of Affliction
It is through affliction that the greatest lessons are learned. This truth has been echoed by some of Christianity’s greatest preachers.
Samuel Rutherford when he found himself in the cellars of affliction said, “The Great King keeps his wine there.”
Charles Spurgeon said, “They who dive in the sea of affliction bring up rare pearls.”
The Apostle Paul said, “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:3-5)
The Apostle James said, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James 1:2-4)
Whatever we’re going through God has a purpose and a plan, not to harm you, but to give you a future and a hope, Jeremiah 29:11.
