Thought For Today: Keeping Our Word
E.M. Bounds said, “The church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men…He does not anoint plans, but men – men of prayer!”
C.S. Lewis said, “Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one – the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”
After promising to remember Joseph, the Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer forgot all about him (Genesis, 40:23). This cost Joseph a couple more years in jail. Yes, it was all in God’s will so Joseph could interpret Pharaoh’s dream, but that doesn’t excuse the chief cupbearer.
To forget doesn’t indicate malice, but it does cause real harm. Good intentions and promises are no good until they are fulfilled. As we begin today is there something or someone we’ve forgotten?
“Evil is wrought by want of thought as well as want of heart,” said Thomas Hood.
Therefore it’s important that we keep our word.
