Jesus’s Presence Needed
Have you ever thought you’ve got it all figured out when suddenly the bottom drops out and you’re left hanging not sure which way is up or down?
This was what happened for two of Jesus’ disciples. Everything was going great. Crowds were gathering hailing Jesus as Messiah, miracles were taking place on a daily basis, and Jesus was putting His enemies in their place.
But then the bottom dropped out. Jesus was arrested in the night, and by the next day was crucified and buried. And then several women were telling them that Jesus had been raised from the dead.
What were they to do? What were they to believe? Now more than ever they needed clarity. So off to the city of Emmaus they went to clear their heads and escape the craziness.
“They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them.” (Luke 24:14-15)
As these two disciples traveled and discussed the events that just happened, Jesus joined them on their trek, only they didn’t know it was Him. And along the way Jesus began to explain that everything that happened had been stated clearly in the Scriptures, admonishing them on their lack of faith. And at the end of their journey their eyes were opened and they now had clarity and purpose.
There are things that happen to us on this road of life, things we just don’t understand. It’s in these times we need Jesus more than ever before in order to help us sort through the clutter and get to the truth.
And so when things get crazy, get alone with God’s word and pray, “Jesus, I can’t figure out what’s going on. Nothing seems to make sense. Please come alongside and show me what you have done and what you are doing. I need Your sure word of guidance, comfort, and hope.”
