The Laugh of Unbelief
God is not limited by our limitations or our doubts. This was something Sarah learned.
God told Abraham that Sarah was going to have a child. Her name at that time was Sarai, which means ‘barren one.’ To add to her sorrow, Sarah was now 90 years old long past the age for women to bear children.
But God was going to do something that the world would consider impossible. To prepare them for this miracle God changed her name from Sarai to Sarah, or princess.
But when Sarah heard the news she laughed. It was a laugh of disbelief, cynicism, and doubt. She had passed the expiration date for having a child. But God rebuked her thinking saying, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)
Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
I wonder how God feels every time a Christian laughs at His promises leaving the Church in disbelief?
Even when we think it’s too late, even when it’s beyond the expiration date, nothing is impossible with God. Even when circumstances say differently, or then God’s promises go beyond and against everything we see and feel. Even though we may not understand it, by faith we can believe it that God is faithful.
God is bigger than our physical limitations and is able to go beyond what we are capable of.
We may think it’s impossible to continue, even with the promises of God, because they are beyond our comprehension. But not for God! Nothing is too difficult for God.
We can take with us today these three truths.
1) God is faithful and able to fulfill every promise He has made.
2) God is not limited by our limitations.
3) Nothing is impossible with God.
Here’s God’s promise: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20)
